Comics and Golfers Raise Money for Children's Hospital
By Bobo Lamb, Associate Editor
A Canadian poet named Henry Drummond once said, "There
is no happiness in having or getting, but only in giving." I
shared his sentiment as host of a comedy charity benefit for
the opening of Christus Schumpert Sutton Children's Medical
Center in Shreveport, La. The first night of benefit was
incredible. I hosted a sold-out show at the Sams Town
Casino & Resort Ballroom featuring veteran comedians AJ
Jamal and Jay Lamont, who received standing ovations.
After the show, we signed autographs and did several on the
spot radio interviews. Later, we attended a banquet, which
included performances by legendary recording artists TOTO
and Santana.
The crowd was laid back until they brought AJ and myself onstage to
join the band. I worked the tambourine and AJ played the bongos as
the crowd really got into the jam session. The next morning we
competed in a celebrity charity golf challenge that paired us with
professional golfers. It was my first time playing and I was paired with
Tag Ridings, who is ranked 156th in the world. The benefit attracted
several pro athletes such as NBA basketball player Dale Ellis (Seattle
Supersonics), NFL football player Anthony McFarland (Tampa Bay
Buccaneers) and Superbowl champ Doug Williams (Washington
Redskins).
Bobo Lamb is a stand-up comedian who performs regularly at the Ice House in Pasadena, CA and The Comic Store in Los Angeles, CA.

Professional golfers and charity producers Hal Sutton and David Toms raised an astonishing
$22 million to build the children's hospital. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I felt
honored as a comic to participate in such a great cause.
