Is stand-up comedy in New York City headed for a bust after five years of mediocre performers [dis]gracing the stages of top comedy clubs?
Have comedy fans grown tired of paying premium admission and drink prices for minimally funny, cookie-cutter comics that they can stay home to watch on VH1 and Comedy Central? The rumors are swirling and we hear that at least two clubs – one in the “Village” and one in Times Square – are hemorrhaging money and might be closing.

STAGE TIME is an online magazine that covers the craft and business of stand-up comedy. Launched in 2005, STAGE TIME has emerged as one of the leading online media resources for comedians, providing informative interviews, career advice articles and insightful commentary.

I think the problem is larger than that. There are just too many damn places to watch comedy for free nowadays so the novelty has worn off. Another thing is how expensive seeing a show has become. High cover charges and $9.00 beers don’t exactly make casually dropping in to see a comedy show easy to do anymore.
